Administrative Division in Jordan


- In the year 2000, it was decided to divide the kingdom into three regions and 12 governorates, comprising 51 districts and 38 sub-districts. These regions are:

Central Region


- Includes four governorates:
the Capital, Zarqa, Balqa and Madaba.

- Contains 19 districts and 15 sub-districts.

Northern Region


- Includes four governorates:
Irbid, Ajloun, Jerash and Mafraq.

- Contains 16 districts and 14 sub-districts.

Southern Region


- Includes four governorates:
Ma’an, Karak, Tafilah and Aqaba.

- Contains 16 districts and 9 sub-districts.


- The three regions in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan abound with distinguished academic institutions, recreational and tourist destinations that attract students and visitors from all over the world.
